Deirdre's Corner

The Vaccination Debate: Today we investigate one of the biggest medical controversies of our time: vaccines. There’s little dispute about this much-- vaccines save many lives, and rarely, they injure or kill. A special federal vaccine court has paid out billions for injuries from brain damage to death. But not for the form of brain injury we call autism. Now—we have remarkable new information: a respected pro-vaccine medical expert used by the federal government to debunk the vaccine-autism link, says vaccines can cause autism after all. He claims he told that to government officials long ago, but they kept it secret.

Are You Green Cleaning With Meaning? - By Deirdre Imus, April 8, 2019 - Few things matter as much in health care, or for maintaining overall health, as cleanliness. For more than two decades, The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center® has been dedicated to ensuring children live the healthiest lives possible - today, tomorrow, and decades from now. Much of our work to make that happen has been in the cleaning product space. It is now common knowledge that household and commercial cleaning products are rife with toxic chemicals that can and do make people sick, but it wasn’t as widely recognized when we founded our Greening The Cleaning® (GTC®) program in 2001.

A Healthy School for Every Child - By Deirdre Imus, 4-1-2019 - Schools should be some of the most sacred structures on our planet. They are shrines to learning of all sorts, whether educational, emotional, lifestyle, or otherwise. We learn how to do math in school but we also learn how to make and maintain friendships, how to take care of one another and also of our planet.  More than 55 million children and seven million adults – 20 percent of the U.S. population - occupy schools every day. Schools are more densely occupied than offices and in worse shape than prisons. Despite their vital role in society, these buildings are simply not at the forefront of most people’s minds day in and day out.

Brain Under Attack-By Beth Lambert, MA Maria Ricket Hong, CHHC, AADP - Does your child have rages, OCD, tics, aggressive behavior, prolonged tantrums and/or anxiety? Is your child exhibiting sudden behavioral changes or a developmental regression? Your child may have PANS. PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) is an umbrella term which includes diagnoses such as PANDAS, PITANDS, and Autoimmune Encephalitis--all of which describe a condition marked by concerning psychiatric and physical symptoms that often appear suddenly. Children in the US are being diagnosed with PANS at a very concerning rate. What is behind this epidemic?

Deirdre's Dish Picks

Pimento Cheese Spread - Recipe by Deirdre Imus, The Imus Ranch: Cooking for Kids and Cowboy - Here's a zippy cheese spread that is so much better than the processed, store-bought versions; the difference is like night and day. I grew up on these, my Grandma was the one who made it and she called it pickles and pimento.  She would dice pickles into it and serve sweet pickles on the side.  It's wonderful on crackers, stuffed into celery sticks, or as a spread for sandwiches. You can forego using a food processor for the preparation of this recipe and the results will be a little less smooth, but delicious nonetheless.

If you have a fond memory from your childhood about some of the dishes we post please click here to contact us, we would love to hear your story.

Shriver told Imus that his aunt Rosemary had an intellectual disability, and though she did not have any traditional power in her life, her strength was of a far greater kind. He said Rosemary taught them the power or loving, compassion, and caring.
