Celebrating 15 Years Protecting Children's Health & the Environment

The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center®  - When you are among the first voices to speak out on an issue, it’s difficult to know if anyone is listening. When I founded The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center® at Hackensack University Medical Center fifteen years ago, concern about our children's health being impacted by toxic exposures in the environment was not the hot button, trendy issue it is today.  Read more...

Deirdre's Dish Picks

Mock Chicken Szechaun Stir-Fry: By Deirdre Imus, The Imus Ranch Cooking for Kids and Cowboys - This dish uses a spicy, dark sauce known to the Szechuan region of western china – it can kick any stir-fry into high gear. You can find prepared Szechuan sauce in the Asian food section of most grocery stores. One other secret to a great stir-fry is to make sure to have all your ingredients chopped and measured before you begin because once you start cooking, this dish comes together fast. This recipe is great served with or without rice.

If you have a fond memory from your childhood about some of the dishes we post please click here to contact us, we would love to hear your story.

If you have a Healthy Recipe that you enjoy and would like to see others indulge in, please share it with us: Deirdre.Imus@hackensackmeridian.org - You may have your recipe posted live on my Recipe Page!

Five Dangerous Dog Vaccine Ingredients - Forty years ago, there was a popular misconception within the veterinary field that vaccines could be given continuously without harming the animal.  Since then, vets learned that vaccines last a lot longer than a year: most likely for the animal’s life.

Deirdre's Book Pick Of The Week

Inoculated: How Science Lost its Soul in Autism - by Kent Heckenlively - In November of 2013, Simpson University biology professor, Dr. Brian Hooker got a call from Dr. William Thompson, a senior scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) working in vaccine safety. Their conversations would lead to explosive revelations that top officials at the CDC engaged in a systematic cover-up of data showing that earlier administration of the MMR vaccine caused increased rates of autism in children, particularly African-American males. Thompson would eventually turn over thousands of the documents to US Congressman William Poesy.

I loved every time Fred appeared on the program. He always added humor to the program. You could tell the genuine love between Fred and Don. Fred didn't sugar coat anything and always told it like it was. I made a special trip to Circle K today for a coffee in honor of Fred. I know you are with Dear John now looking down on us. RIP Fred.

    Dear Mr. Imus
Long time listener. Always enjoyed when your brother Fred would call in to participate on your show. Stories about his dog's, and joking about his ex's, Always knew you loved him by the way you signed off before hanging up with him. You made a point of telling him you loved him. I would like to express my heart felt condolences to you and your loved ones.

To Don and all the Imus radio family: we are saddened by the going home of Fred. I still have my auto body express denim work shirt which Fred himself took the order many years ago. Our condolances to all associated with Fred.

No matter whether it was good times or bad, Fred Imus was always genuine and lived and loved the simple life until the end. Rest in Peace, Fred.

Fred Imus was like the other bookend. He was very creative and also opinionated, but not in an over-bearing way. I'm certain he learned as much from his brother as Don learned from him. I think I'm going to go find that song he wrote "I don't want to have to Marry you" and listen to it every now and then. God rest his soul.

The brotherly love leaped through the radio every time Fred appeared. His warm sense of humor will be missed by all of us but ours is a minor loss compared to the loss felt by his family. Take peace in knowing that Fred is now making the Angels "smile" and that he will be there to greet you when your time comes. God Bless you Fred!

    Don,
Even though you hate Palmdale, California, I love you and really enjoyed when Fred came on. Everyone could tell how much you loved each other and both of you are for real.
Hearing about the deaths of the Seal 6 Team in Afghanistan and then Fred was too damn much for me this weekend.

August 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPalmdale, CA listener

He brought a lot of smiles to my face when I did not feel like smiling. Always enjoyed every time he was on the TV or Radio with Don. My thoughts and prayers are with all the Imus family and friends.

I was always entertained and seldom did I not get a chuckle when hearing Don and Fred discuss life and all that goes with it.

Fred's Sunday morning show was a favorite too. He chose good music and always made me laugh at something every week.

He will be sorely missed. Condolences to the Imus family.

I remember when Fred was on and told the story of getting kicked off these dating web sites. He returned weeks later and spoke of pictures he was receiving from women interested in him. Tattoos and Harleys. I laughed so hard!!! I always looked forward to Fred's appearance on the show. I will miss him. RIP Fred. My condolences to the Imus family.
